September 30th, 2009 | Padang
The city of Padang, West Sumatra was rocked by a devastating 7.6 magnitude earthquake late in the afternoon on Wednesday, September 30th, 2009. During the morning on the next day another violent earthquake, magnitude 6.8, shook the region again. Many buildings throughout the city were leveled with many trapped inside. Outside the city entire villages were wiped off the map. The death toll is in the thousands, and the survivors have endured many days with no clean water and no electricity.
Many of you have already contacted us asking about the well being of Bapak Waleed, who is currently teaching in Padang, and our other affiliates throughout the area. We are thankful that Bapak Waleed and everyone else in our circles are alright, although many of their homes were damaged. We are involved in fund raising and relief efforts to do what we can to help the people of Padang. If you are interested in participating please contact us.
